Adopting best workplace learning practices to support employees in competency development

26 Apr 2022

Minister for Education, Mr Chan Chun Sing, presented the National Workplace Learning Certification to nine companies at the inaugural Workplace Learning Conference. In his opening address, he spoke about the need to upskill about half a million adult learners annually to meet industry needs for emerging skills.

The National Workplace Learning Certification, launched in May 2021 to enhance business transformation, recognises progressive Singapore-based companies that have developed structures and processes to proliferate good training practices at their workplaces. With the support from the National Centre of Excellence for Workplace Learning (NACE), the Certification journey helps companies to identify and close gaps in their workplace learning processes and capabilities to better support employees’ development.

The nine companies were the first recipients of the National Workplace Learning Certification. Out of the nine recipients, three were under the ST Logistics Group.

ST Logistics Pte Ltd and ST-Airport Services Pte Ltd were conferred the Workplace Learning Organisation of Competence (Gold) Award, which celebrates organisations with effective, progressive, and well-integrated approaches in Workplace Learning. ST Healthcare Pte Ltd was conferred the Workplace Learning Organisation of Competence (Silver) Award, which celebrates organisations with sound and aligned approaches in Workplace Learning.

Mr Fun Kum Wah, Chief Operating Officer of ST Logistics, expressed, “We believe that workplace learning is not only one of direct relevance but also implementable with ease and productive for the business.”

We are appreciative that ST Logistics, ST Healthcare, and ST-Airport Services’ business-forward systems and processes that enable good practices for workplace learning have been recognised through this certification. Through an increasing partnership between Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), employers and its employees, the skills ecosystem can be transformed for a higher skilled workforce.

ST Logistics will continue to build a sustainable workplace learning culture, to promote continuous learning that the workforce might stay ready, relevant, and resilient.
