If you think internet has changed your life, think again. The IoT is about to change it all over again. Living in the world of IoT, technology is slowly replacing how our world functions.
IoT is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.
An example of IoT in use today is the smart lock, you will never need keys again. It unlocks automatically when you get home and locks behind you when you close the door. You may also grant guest keys to friends or helper and have them expire when you no longer want to give that person access to your house. You can even view the activity log and grant access from your smartphone remotely.
The team is going in depth with the explanation on IoT in our day to day life. Research is ongoing to bring information together for the upcoming Highlights of Technology (HOT) session. The HOT session is open to everyone in TGL & ST logistics.
There are multiple IoT solutions that IDEALAB has developed such as the TriggerBox Solution and Smart Cabinet.
TriggerBox Solution – It is a cloud based solution used for automatic inventory replenishment. Utilizing RFID technology to trigger replenishment of inventory, each RFID card represents 1 SKU with a present quantity of your choice. Once triggered, the order information will be updated to a centralized cloud platform which provides information of the stock quantity.
Smart Cabinet – Smart Cabinet is for high value asset tracking and replenishment. Similarly, Smart Cabinet utilizes RFID technology to auto detect and display tagged items stored within the cabinet. Information from the SMART device can be sent to a centralized cloud platform to get real-time asset count and movement.
These solutions are currently used in most restructured hospitals in Singapore for inventory management.
Mark your calendars now if you do not wish to miss the session (:
